A Quiet Place: Review by @Kush_Hayes

I watched A Quiet Place tonight with a full house which is this movies biggest problem.
This movie is a Paradox. Visually, there’s nothing spectacular about it, but if you don’t have a super-duper sound system at home, then you HAVE to see this in the theater. The problem with that is if you have more than 5 people with you and if even one bought popcorn at a minimum, you can’t really focus on the movie as when even with a full house the smallest cough is a distraction. I had a full house of 200+ including a (well behaved) therapy dog and the guy next to me kept checking his phone every eight minutes in a 90 minute movie.

Lets get past the theatrical experience. This is a very well made movie. You are invested with these characters from the beginning and catch on to the problems at hand. You are with them as they are on the day they are living. You feel the weight of their loss from a year prior. You see how John Krasinski's character is trying to keep his family alive. With the exception of not being able to ever make a sound ever, they seem to be doing pretty well. Full large farm land. Electricity. They have a HAM radio. Surveillance cameras. Theyre surrounded by others, sort of, who have set up a communication system using fire. And fortunately everyone in the family knows American Sign Language. Even Teen angst is communicated through #ASL.

Ol Jim from The Office is dealing with the same problems the average father of three is dealing with in the 21st century, minus the nightmare monsters. His oldest son is afraid of becoming a man. His only daughter is carrying guilt that isn’t hers. Pregnant wife who could give birth any minute. New baby on the way who isn’t going to be quiet for anyone or thing over the coming months to years.

I have many nitpicks about this, but overall, its an enjoyable film and uses its 90 mins efficiently. I recommend everyone who enjoys monsters and horror to see this in a (less crowded) theater.
