Full Circle Brewings Pie of the Tiger Lemon Meringue - Review by @Robyn_Seto
About a year ago I reviewed a beer from Full Circle Brewing Co. called Pie of the Tiger: Apricot Pie. I rated it a 4 out of 5, and was overall impressed by the fruit pie mimicry. I also mentioned that there were a couple variations on this beer that included a mixed berry and cranberry pie flavors. More recently, Full Circle Brewing released a lemon meringue pie version of Pie of the Tiger that we will be looking at today.
Pie of the Tiger: Lemon Meringue Pie is a sour beer brewed with lemon and lactose as part of Full Circle Brewing’s Hip Hop Puree series. Much like it’s older apricot sibling, this beer delightfully mimics a slice of lemon meringue pie.
If you love lemon bars as much as I do, this is the beer for you. There’s a definite tang of fresh lemon that is like biting into a homemade lemon bar, complete with the buttery graham cracker crust. The lactose sugar fluffs up the mouthfeel and adds a sweet vanilla note to curb the tartness of the lemon. It also creates a round body that’s definite, but not heavy. Due to the boldness of the flavors, I would recommend drinking this beer by itself. It is very much what I would call a “dessert beer”.
I may be biased because I do love lemon-based desserts, but I very highly recommend this beer. As we march towards the holiday season, I look forward to more dessert inspired beers in the coming months. I feel like brewers outdo themselves year after year when it comes to seasonal beers, so it will be very exciting to see what stands out!
