Great Notion Brewings Orange Creamscicle: Review by @Robyn_Seto
I’m enjoying these themed months, and while I’m not a huge fan of the India Pale Ale there are ones I enjoy. So why not showcase a couple IPA’s for the remainder of this month: IP-May!
As things slowly return to some semblance of normalcy in the United States, restaurants and tap rooms have begun to open up their doors again with fewer restrictions on the purchase of alcoholic beverages. One of my favorite local spots has lovely outdoor seating, and on one particularly sunny Saturday my beer tasting partner and I ventured out to Capital Hop Shop in my hometown of Sacramento. Although their rotating taplist has shrunk since their reopening, they still offer around 20 to 30 unique brews on tap. One that caught my eye was Great Notion Brewing’s Orange Creamsicle IPA.
simple and straightforward name, Orange Creamsicle IPA. It tells you more or less everything you need to know about this beer. It has a delightfully creamy and fluffy mouthfeel. Fresh orange juice flavors accompany a creamy vanilla experience that certainly reminds me of the classic Orange Creamsicle pop. It’s not a heavy IPA but has a nice body to it. There’s no cloying sweetness or acrid bitterness. There is a touch of vegetal hop flavor as the sip dries, but it’s not funky or overpowering. It has just enough hoppiness to remind you that you’re drinking an IPA.
Overall, I would say this is one of my favorite IPA’s, and mainly because it’s very tasty and doesn’t make me feel like I just bit into a fermented orange rind. Stay tuned for another exciting IPA review next week!
