Worst Movies Not Reviewed 2018: Thoroughbreds
American Psycho from 2000 was a satire on 1980s vanity and consumerism from a sociopaths point of view. Heathers was a great cult comedy from the 80s about vanity and classism from a teenage girls point of view. So when Thoroughbreds is being compared to “American Psycho meets Heathers” one has there expectations high. I know my name is Kush Hayes, so you may think my short term memory might be spotty at best, but I didnt see that comparison. Im not sure what it was I saw, and I definitely didnt see what the FEW that did see this, what it was they liked about it. Its been awhile since we went the Alamo Drafthouse for Day 45 of the Moviepass experience.
Theres definitely a teenage girl in this. Two in fact. Just one short of the three “Heathers”. They do both seem to be sociopaths, just on different spectrums. They both seem to come from good homes. They for some reason come up with a plan to kill Anna Taylor Joys step dad. Hes not a bad guy either. Hes slightly annoyed that his step daughter has tried to kill him multiple times already including an incident where the brakes on his bike were cut be ATJ. And why wouldnt that put him in a bad mood? He still seems to get past that and try to be her father. Still not good enough for some reason.
The nicest things I can say about this movie was it was less than 90 minutes and Anton Yelchin gives a fantastic performance of a pathetic character. You miss the talent that guy had in his post mortem performance.
Its also not impossible that I just dont relate to the material.
However, If I were to review this movie back in March I would have given it One out of Six Blueberries.
