MoviePass Million Plus Milestone by @Kush_Hayes
Earlier today, MoviePass announced they broke 1.5 million subscribers which for those keeping track is a 50% increase in business in under 20 days. The obvious reasons for this increase in traffic is due to positive word of mouth as well as MoviePass price drop staying steady at $9.99. Im hearing you can also find a yearly MoviePass at your local Costco for $90. I do not know as of this article if you can get your card right there, or if you still must wait for it to arrive in the mail. The latter would feel contradictory to me. If I read in the comments that this is just a giftcard, for the right to order the real card, I think Ill be irritated.
Speaking of irritated, under the tweet for MoviePasses Milestone announcement, very few congratulatory words were shared. One thing that is a constant in this world is whenever MoviePass tweets out a promotion, or a daily affirmation, or etc… dozens upon dozens of an angry customer base weigh in.
One customer replied: “Congratulations, this comes with also solving client issues. I have submitted a double charge issue over 23 days still not resolved” - This means this problem occurred before they broke the first million.
Another customer states: “As a paid subscriber, I'd love to be able to utilize the product. Where's my card! Paid for 9/11/17!”
It goes on and one like that. MoviePass has someone tweeting for them. I don’t know if that is just “Someone” or “Someones-Plural” but they will reply: “Please send us a private message that includes your email address and we'll be happy to help!” But eventually they get overwhelmed with tweets that they just can’t keep up with including tweets like: “And yet you won’t answer literally any customer service inquiries”
If you read our website you’ll know I got my card pretty quick considering I ordered it over Thanksgiving weekend. I wrote an article about my first MoviePass experience. And have MoviePass to thank for every review I’ve written on this site since. Thanks to MoviePass, I had the pleasure of seeing 16 movies in 30 days (My card Activated Dec 2nd) and racked up close to $183 in tickets. My card has technically now paid for itself by double. However not even I am immune to an accounting error. As of Jan 3rd of 2018, My AmEx has not been charged.
I dropped this bomb in a FaceBook Group the other day and it became a hot button topic. Some told me, “the first month is free”, while others were aghast because they were charged the day their card activated or as exampled above double charged without receiving their card at all. And maybe something has changed in the last 6 days. To be honest, I’m kind of afraid to look.
Mitch Lowe! (@Mitch_Lowe) I have great customer service experience, including managing the Crunch Fitness brand getting out of a huge PR mess saving them thousands of members in just San Francisco alone. I would be happy to assist your team 3-4 hours a day if it means helping bring the joy Ive received from your product to others around this great country of ours! You have an amazing product I believe in, many believe in, that we don’t want to see crash and burn!
Customer service problems are going to exist on any platform with every product. And if MoviePass had only the average problems, if they had a fraction of the growing pains they’re having right now, they’d be celebrating their 3 Million Member today instead.
