Worst Reviewed of 2018: Tag
I guess its only natural that after the pleasant surprise of Day 70 and Superfly, comes Day 71 of the Moviepass experience and Tag. This could have probably also fallen under Disappointments of 2018. Why was this not just a Disappointment but one of my worst reviewed movies of the year? This has funny moments. Its even a cute movie. This has a full cast of good actors who are all legitimately funny. All funny not just in one style of comedy, but multiple styles of comedy. But its forgettable. Its comedy is mostly physical. And there are places for physical comedy that actually works, but its not anywhere in this movie. I think the thing that eats at me the most is that it keeps billing itself as a true story. Maybe Im missing the joke. It is based on a “true-ish” story, but maybe itd be better off with the marketing not focusing on this? Im still soured on a swerve-psych-out attempt Jeremy Reners character makes toward the end of the film. When you think about the true comedic potential of this movie, that makes its mediocrity even worse.
As seen in my original review, I gave Tag, Two out of Six Blueberries.
