Operation Finale is the new historical drama by Chris Weitz, the writer and director of The Golden Compass and the director of Twilight: New Moon based on the true story of the capture and conviction of War Criminal and architect of the Nazi Final Solution, Adolf Eichmann.
Starring Star Wars' Oscar Issac, Comedian Nick Kroll and Oscar winner Sir Ben Kingsley as Eichmann whose character escaped #Germany after World War 2 and fled to Argentina.
This is a good movie, but I felt it lacked the tension a situation like this should have presented. Our lead and supporting characters were all affected by Eichmanns actions during the war giving them the motives to pursu him, but it just never feels impactful.
The plot and the plan is simple: go to Argentina and capture Eichmann to bring back to #Israel for prosecution. And as soon as they are successful, fate throws obstacles in our heroes paths.
The airline wont send a rescue plane to them unless they get Kingsleys character to sign a full confession. As usual we and our band of heroes must submit to the airlines will and are forced delay their escape for another 10 days.
This is where the tension should ratchet up. One of our characters keeps persuading Kingsley to sign the confession. When that doesnt work, Oscar Isaac takes over and the two being a series of conversations where they learn about each other and not necessarily for the better. Meanwhile, our heroes are stressing out, some want to enforce their own brand of justice and the threat of Argentinas police force looking for the missing nazi.
Whats suppose to be chaos, is just kind of mundane. Our Siematic Avengers do get split up but youre not really worried about them, nor is there any real drama in their reunions.
As stated above, this is a good movie but I think itd play better on #Netflix. I think focus could have been shifted better, or at least cut 15-20 mins from the 2hr 3 min run time.
