John Wick Chapter 3 Parabellum : Review by @Kush_Hayes
“Prepare for war”. Thats the latin translation for the subtitle to John Wick Chapter 3. And sure enough, war comes for John Wick.
We immediately pick up where we left off in Chapter 2 and where we ended with a full hour, we revisit at the 45 min mark and counting. They do a great job of building up the tension in these “45 minutes” as we watch John Wick strategize, and restregize and adapt to the situations presented to him as he continues to bleed out from the beatings he has already taken in Chapter 2 all before he is officially excommunicado.
This movie continues to deliver what the fans want as far as that high paced intense combat action goes and even delves deeper into this world of Assassins and other international criminals that goes further than this fictitious Russian gang that we met back in 2015.
There seems to be a lot of low-fi retro technology as well as strange rituals and formalities for a group of people who know how to murder each other with random day to day items.
Halle Berry does a great job taking up the mantle of “super murder mom” when we meet her in Morocco and while we get some explanation as to why she agrees to help Wick, outside of her efficient and detailed combat training there isnt much to her role in this. I would still rather see her James Bond counterparts spinoff before the John Wick spinoff.
Both Laurence Fishburne and Ian McShane are visibly having a great time revisiting their roles from the first two chapters, but it is Fishburne who chews the scenery and outperforms everyone with his “play to the back row of the theater” performance. It again makes you wish he was on screen more.
John Wick Chapter 3 is two hours and ten minutes of Murder Death Kill after Murder Death Kill where bodies are stacking up by the minute. We even get a scene in the aftermath of one of many massacres where a clean up crew is just pushing a floor broom and collecting shell casings by the hundreds.
Giant accomplishment to director Chad Stahelski on making the action and the visuals of John Wick bigger and bolder with each film and being just one behind Justin Lins four time Fast and Furious streak. I wish I could say this was better than its original predecessor, but its still pretty incredible and will not disappoint the average action movie fan.
Four out of Six Blueberries.
Rated R for pervasive strong violence, and some language
