Ant-Man and the Wasp: Review by @Kush_Hayes
I plan on seeing Ant-Man and the Wasp again, in 3D, possibly in IMAX.
Having said that, this is the worst movie of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Thor: The Dark World of 2013, maybe Avengers: Age of Ultron from 2015. Thats still 9 to 13 movies that are pretty damn good.
Dont get me wrong, whats fun is fun. Whats funny is funny. Whats dramatic is dramatic. The special effects are fantastic. The motives for the protagonists are legit;whereas the bad guys are just dumb. And none of this is a good mix in this movie.
The story is as such, Scott Lang has only another 3 days of house arrest but gets pulled back into the Ant-Man life by Hank Pym and Hope who now think they can find Janet Pym in the microverse. The events of Captain America: Civil War are still apart of this story and have affected Langs life. However his daughter still seems pretty enthusiastic about her dad, Langs Ex-Wife and her current husband are encouraging and supporting his “rehabilitation”. But because of Scotts actions, the Pyms have become fugitives because of the Sokovia Accords are in hiding. Except theyre hiding in plain sight in a building in the Filmore of San Francisco.
The Pyms want to work with Scott again, because of the way he was able to return from the microverse - spoilers for the first Ant-Man. Our antagonist wants to intercept the Pyms work because she, Ghost, was involved in a good old fashioned lab accident and had her molecules scrambled to the point where she will phase out of existence within “days”.
Remember when I talked about Scotts house arrest, he is constantly checked in upon by the FBI, especially an agent who is played by Randall Park, who youre happy to see, who you like in the movie, but the character is a boob. An FBI agent is a cartoonish boob. In a world where people are telling Captain America to stand down, this agent, in charge of overseeing a guy who can adjust his size, who had to be the top of his class in multiple classes, is a goddamn boob.
I think depending on what theater I go to, this will be an awesome movie to watch in 3d, but the story is lacking and could be 20-30 minutes shorter. While I laughed at most of the comedy in this movie, if you excluded most of it, you would have a shorter, tighter movie. Theres nothing wrong with a tight movie.
I like a lot of things about this movie. I have no desire to see it again unmedicated in 3d.
After that, I have no need to revisit this, even with its loose-loose connection to Infinity War. I would rather see Infinity War for a seventh time in the theater before its Aug home release.
To reiterrate, Its fun, it has great special effects, its easy to follow, but the events arent enough to hold it together. That gives Ant-Man and the Wasp:
