Mikkeller SDs Catalina Bine Mixer: Review by @Robyn_Seto
Catalina Bine Mixer by Mikkeller SD is a good second beer for 2021. It marks not only my second beer review for a Mikkeller SD beer, but also the second time I’ve reviewed a beer inspired by a Will Farrell movie. This strong ale brewed with petit syrah grape juice, merlot grape juice, and blackberries takes its name from the 2008 film Step Brothers starring Adam Scott. While I’m not a huge fan of Will Farrell, I am a huge fan of Mikkeller’s beers. Catalina Bine Mixer is no exception to that!
This beer is a delightfully purple color and smells of red wine. The aromas match the flavors, as there are distinct wine characteristics. There are deep and sweet grape and berry notes that come across very juicy. Despite the shockingly buttery wine-like taste, this beer doesn’t have a strong tannin aftertaste. It’s very effervescent like a sparkling wine, adding brightness. Despite the strong flavors, they aren’t overpowering which makes this beer quite refreshing.
This beer tastes like sweet berry wine!! This beer would be perfect for introducing your wine-loving friends to the craft beer world, should they ever feel daring enough to make the jump. At 8.5% ABV, I could see it possibly being an alternative for when you may want something a little lighter than wine, but still want to enjoy some grapes.
4/5 Burps
